"Coco The Clown" (Conan O'Brien)
16" x 20" Oil on Canvas

In honor of the funniest talk show host in television history, thus far. I created this oil
portrait of Conan O'Brien as a tribute to him.

I depicted him as a clown for two reasons: One, he has made so many of us laugh for so
many years, and two, I thought the name Coco sounded like a really good name for a
clown. Conan even has the red hair to go along. Long live Coco!

My theory as to why The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien went down in the ratings, is
because NBC unfortunately fell victim to the self-fulfilling prophecy, whereby their worst
fears came true due to their own attempt to prevent it. NBC held on to Jay Leno in an
attempt to prevent their worst fears--a drop in the ratings. In essence, this created not one
but two Tonight Shows, and therefore, divided the audience in two. Jay's ratings went down
mainly because his show went up against popular shows during Prime Time. Many of Jay's
devoted fans did watch his show and felt they had seen their "Tonight Show." So for many
of them, there was no strong desire to stay tuned for Conan's show, which was separated
by the news.  If they had simply allowed Jay to leave
gracefully, then all of Jay's fans would
have naturally flocked over to Conan's show. Hopefully, this is a lesson well learned by
NBC and will aid them in future decisions. Unfortunately for us Conan fans, the acronym
NBC may forever stand for, "No longer Broadcasting Conan."
